Brief summary of the engagement

The Proposed project aim to influence demand for family planning services and strengthen feedback mechanism with government bodies to improve supplies and services. Under this project two strategies adopted firstly, we have created a pool of 20 community champion to be advocates for family planning and secondly, strengthen linkages and advocates for family planning with government officials to address implementation challenges. The project was implemented in 15 Villages of Chopan, Robertsganj & Nagwa Block of Sonbhadra District. Different stakeholders were engaged at different level during project implementation to get output, outcome and Impact of the project to improve access to family planning service among the community. From 15 village’s altogether, 20 champions were selected 18 of them are female and 2 them are male on the basis of awareness, knowledge, using family planning services and also encourage other people to use family planning services. After champions selection relevant training provided to them as per the necessity of the project. Once training was over all the champion begin this project in their concern villages with the regular support from Project In-charge, Document officer & Accountant
Under the proposed project as per the pre-set objectives Jan Kalyan Gramodyog Seva Ashram Organised achieved all the objectives of the project such as:
- Organise training of 20 community champions: In the month of March 2019, two days refresher training program was organised and 20 champions participated. The aim of the training to build capacity of the champions on family planning, Improve their understanding on family planning services and how they engage them-selves in the community make this project success. On this GHS team, member from JKGSA and other social workers participated to make this training program successful.
- Champion meeting CSO/Local Administrator/Program Implementers: with the support of Network CSO all the champions organised 120 monthly meetings with local Administrators (Gram Pradhan/ Mukhiya) and program implementers (ANM/MOIC/BPM) to highlight the gaps and challenges. During this meeting champions shared the gap with the authority, raised the demand for the family planning services which is required to the community to bring necessary change in the society. During this meeting champions also shared that community have less understanding about the family planning services and what kind of facilities they can receive under family planning services.
- Champion follow up meeting: with the support of Network CSO all the champions organised 60 Follow-up meeting in 6 month duration with local administrators (Gram Pradhan/ Mukhiya) and program implementers (ANM/MOIC/BPM) to follow up on the gaps which was shared in previous meeting. During this meeting it was asked from the local administrators, program implementers about the status of the Family planning services which is required to the community and it came to know that the concern department continuously working on the feedback which is received in the earlier meeting and they have increased the family planning services in the project location also ANM/ASHA now paying attention on this issue and providing awareness among the community about the family planning services available in the district.
- Stakeholder & Saas Bahu Sammelans meeting: with the support of Network CSO all the champions organised 120 Stakeholders & 120 Saans Bahu meetings and provided information on types of Family planning tools, Contraceptives their usage & benefits, Spread awareness for the family planning services and encourage to adopt family planning services which further benefits to their health. During village health nutrition day Saans Bahu saamelan meetings were organised for creating their understanding about importance of the family planning and engage community to raise their voices to generate demand for the family planning services in the presence of the local Administrations, ANM/ASHA and available Network CSO members and staff.
- Community Champion Performance report: On monthly basis community champion performance report was prepared by the network CSO to evaluate the performance of the champions which is required to know status of their work and their performance in the project and the type of benefits they providing to the community. Time to time support is provided to the champions looking at their performance level.
- Quarterly Meeting with the block & District level official: During 6 month of the project 6 block and 6 District level meetings organised by the Block/ District level government officials, TSU members by the Jan Kalyan Gramodyog Seva Ashram playing role of Network CSO in the district while project duration. In this meeting information related to the problem and challenges were shared with the TSU members in family planning supplies and services.
Strengthen linkages and advocate for family planning with government officials to address implementation challenges

- During our meeting with MOIC & medical officer we have informed several challenges which exist in the community related to the Family Planning Services. This meeting helped Champions to implement our project well manner. The Medical officer & MOIC both provided their attention on this issue. During Monthly meeting with ASHA/ANM both MOIC and BPM informed them about the necessity of the family planning and asked them to aware community about the family planning which is one of the big achievement of project.
- BPM & MOIC assigned ASHA/ANM about the proper implementation of Family Planning Services in the community and asked them to provided details during monthly Block level meeting. During their meeting with the Community ASHA/ANM started inviting our project champions to attend this meeting and provided necessary information to the community about the family planning. This helped a lot to our champions to implement our project because they started getting ASHA/ANM support as well.
- During our meeting with the Block and the District level government official we have informed them about absence of the Family planning resources in the community or very families are getting benefit. After our engagement and feedback to the Government officials other families in the community also started getting the Family planning services and resources such as Chaya contraceptives, Condoms, Copper T, Antara Contraceptives, Mala n Mala D.
Utilizing media platforms for dissemination of success stories and key community champion initiatives
During the Project media was engaged and time to time media covered our activities and stories which is published in the local newspaper such as Dainik Jagaran, Amar Uajala, Delhi News & United Bharat and Flash News which is one of the major achievement of the project. The stories which is published in the newspaper most of them provided the champions of the respective villages to show their impact in the community. This published stories were further utilised to make Lessoning with the Block and District Government officials.
Field visit by the staff
In the proposed project during 6 months the number of Visit conducted by the NCSO staff mentioned below:

- M & E cum Document officer: Mr. Qutubuddin, M & E cum Document officer made 96 visit to the project location in 6 month duration. During the visit he attended several meeting which is organised by the champions in the community. Time to time provided necessary support to the champions during and after the meeting. Collected observation from the community about their willingness of the project which is implemented in the project.
- Accountant: Mr. Jitendra Lal Srivastava, Accountant made 36 visit to the project location in 6 month duration. During the visit he checked about the meeting which is organised by the champion is properly organised or not. He provided necessary feedback and suggestion to the champions and same informed to the Project and M&E cum documentation officer.
- Project In charge: Mr. Sarfuddin, Project-Incharge made 24 visit to the project location in 6 month duration. During the visit he attended several meeting which is organised by the champions in the community. Time to time provided necessary support to the champions during and after the meeting. Collected observation from the community about their willingness of the project which is implemented in the project
Contribute in strengthening the work of the community champions

Community champions are the pillar of this project because they are the people who actually implementing the family planning services at ground zero level. It is very important to provide them insights while the program is on. To make our project successful, in several forms we have built the capacity of the Champions and motivated them in continuous basis are as follows:
- Initially at the beginning of the project in the month of March 2019, two days refresher training program was organised and 20 champions participated. - Time to time visit made at the project location by the Project In-charge, M&E cum Documentation officer & Accountant to look after the process of project implementation by the champions and time to time provided feedback, suggestion looking at the project location.
- Every month champion’s performance score form is filled to know the champions performance. After evaluating the champion’s performance form the same score provided to the champions to make them understand about their area of improvement. Accordingly, time to time necessary feedbacks provided to them.
Plan to sustain and continue the work around family planning with the pool of trained champions that we have, after the end of this project? The vision of the long-term sustainability of FPA
After completion of the project duration the project still it is running by itself by the champions. The uniqueness of the structure and framework make this project self-sustained. As project was over but champions are still working at their villages because they made good rapport with the community in last 6 month and the community stakeholder’s admire them as a champions of the village.
Because of the uniqueness and framework of this project ASHA/ANM engage our project champions in their meetings and our champions still working and sharing their family planning idea and providing awareness to the community about the family planning.
Three notable developments of this overall project
